ABOUT

As an antidote to mass fashion ideals I design and make woven blankets, scarves, shawls, cushions and accessories using traditional artisan weaving practices.Within all of my work is an element of hidden communication and meaning taking the form of graphic blocks woven into the cloths double layered structure. These blocks help to trap words, stories and memories, bringing a new sense of value and emotional connection to contemporary textiles.Using Morse-code words and patterns in my textiles creates vivid statements, different on each side of the cloth, communicating messages of love and comfort. My uplifting colour pallet of violets, geranium, turquoise, aubergine and sunshine on a backdrop of misty greys and honeydew are inspired by vintage treasures and my own drawings and photography. I use carefully sourced natural yarns such as cashmere, lambs wool and merino from UK suppliers to create my unique and bold colour pallet.

My larger blankets are woven in a 250 year old mill in Scotland and spell the word 'LOVE' throughout them in Morse-code. My scarves and wraps are HAND woven by myself in my south-London studio. Whilst enjoying the intimacy of production when hand weaving my collection of scarves, wraps and shawls I also enjoying celebrating and promoting traditional UK manufacturing.

Weaving and all of its processes speak strongly to my ideals of time, storytelling and sustainable practice, taking the time, effort and skill to produce special work with a unique sense of value. Each piece I make is a wearable piece of art though remains wholly functional; a colourful, bold and contemporary interpretation of a craft almost abolished by the industrial revolution of the 18thand 19thcenturies. I celebrate the traditions of this craft and community as well as honouring my long standing belief in slow textiles, responsibility and emotionally durable design.

My luxury woven cloths, accessories and blankets are to be used everywhere and anywhere, inside and out, providing the warmth of wrapping yourself up in a protective and decorative layer, and enriching your experience with colour, warmth and love. I wish to create heirlooms that capture memories and stories and encourage an emotive connection between textile and owner.

I hope that my textiles are enjoyed by others as much as I enjoy designing and making them. x
